Jesus Shaped People - Week 7 Service sheet (pdf) Welcome: Hello and welcome to today’s worship from Baildon Methodist Church in the Bradford North circuit. My name is Claire Nott and I’m one of the members at Baildon Methodist Church. Helping me in today’s service are Reverend Canon Gordon Dey, Abbie Nott and Reverend Vicky Atkins, Chaplain at Woodhouse Grove School. This is the seventh and final service in a series where we’ve been exploring Luke’s account of the final journey of Jesus to Jerusalem, and its impact on his disciples. Over the next 45 minutes we’ll be reviewing the messages we’ve heard over the last six weeks and considering the impact on our lives and churches, particularly in this time of Covid-19. Call to worship Our call to worship today is taken from Colossians chapter 3 :  Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 16 Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly ...

Jesus Shaped People - Prayer Service Sheet (pdf) Good morning. Welcome to our Service of Worship from the North Bradford Methodist Circuit. I’m Ruth Kerr, a Worship Leader at Baildon and our theme this morning is Prayer. This is week 5 of a series we have been following called Jesus Shaped People, looking at the teaching of Jesus during the final period of his ministry, on his journey to Jerusalem, described in Luke’s gospel in chapters 9 to 19. Today we focus on prayer and we’ll be looking at a couple of passages in particular which shed light on the subject, interspersing this with prayers, and I have enlisted the help of some members of the Monday evening Prayer group, currently meeting on Zoom.In the uncertain times in which we are living, I personally feel very grateful for the gift of prayer, very grateful to Jesus for opening up the way for us to approach God in prayer.  Call to worship And so, with this sense of gratitude, let’s start our Service with a Psalm of praise, Ps...

Jesus Shaped People – the Journey to Jerusalem Jesus recruits unlikely people and gives them challenging work to do. So far we have had the theme set out for us by Mervyn Flecknoe and Rev Gordon Dey. Our thinking and sharing is based on the gospel according to St Luke chapters 9 – 19. The last two weeks services have reminded us how Jesus focussed his work on the poor the marginalised and the outcast; and how Jesus uses everyday stories to make clear the message that he brings about God loving all of us and about what is important and what is not. Service sheet (pdf) Call to worship (from Psalm 25) Take me by the hand, lead me down the path of your truth. You are my saviour aren’t you? As I worship, help me to recognise the milestones of your Mercy. Song Hymn read or listen to  Jesus is the Name we honour (StF 354). A collect (Prayer)  Lord Jesus Christ, you called your disciples to follow you, and you sent them out to do your work. May all find and respond to your calling tod...

Jesus Shaped People - Week 3 Service sheet (pdf) Call to worship We’re focusing today on Luke’s account of the teaching of Jesus, so much of which comes to us in stories. The Bible is, as the old hymn says, a book full of stories.  Our call to worship, Psalm 124 , is a story in itself, and as with all good stories, it draws us in. 1-5 If GOD hadn’t been for us      —all together now, Israel, sing out!— If GOD hadn’t been for us      when everyone went against us, We would have been swallowed alive      by their violent anger, Swept away by the flood of rage,      drowned in the torrent; We would have lost our lives      in the wild, raging water. 6 Oh, blessed be GOD!      He didn’t go off and leave us. He didn’t abandon us defenceless,      helpless as a rabbit in a pack of snarling dogs. 7 We’ve flown free from their fangs,      free of their traps, free as a ...
