The fellowship group is a great way for the youth of the church to get together, share what they believe and discuss what Christianity as a whole teaches us. It's a place where we are all fully comfortable to be ourselves, share our opinions and know we won't be judged by others. The fact that the fellowship group is currently running as a combination of both North and South Bradford has allowed us to meet new people, make new friends, have a good laugh, all at the same time as learning from each other. It's also a good place to go to when things are getting tough in life as we're likely to talk about matters and issues that are personal and relevant to our age group.  There's been numerous times when I have walked in with an issue on my mind and leave with an action plan or new perspective on how to tackle the issue. Sorted Youth Church, a fresh expression of church run by Rev Tracy Milne, of the Church Army, meets each week at Thackley Methodist Church. In their latest newsletter, they write: “Sorted will take up to 36 young people on their annual residential next year to Sneaton Castle. This will be a life changing experience for some of our local young people, as they struggle with a lack of self-esteem and confidence. Talking to a young person recently, Tracy mentioned the opportunity of going away next year with Sorted. The response is incredible: “I have not even been to Ilkley Moor or Baildon Moor ... never mind Whitby. I have never seen the sea.” The young person is nearly fifteen years old. “M y dad says if it costs more than £20 then it’s too much.” The overall cost for each person is £168 excluding transport. Rock Solid is the new youth club for 9-13 year olds at Wilsden Trinity Church . It aims to provide a group for older children to follow on from Wilsden Trinity’s other youth club, Friends and Heroes. Every Tuesday we meet for games, Bible stories, sweets, crafts and chats. Highlights so far include wrapping people up as mummies, making ice cream sundaes, playing Zip Zap Boing (which is as confusing as it sounds), building Easter gardens and making lava lamps. We set aside a good amount of time just for chatting, and each week we have a “Millstone, Milestone” section – each person can say if they’ve had a difficult week (millstone) or a brilliant week (milestone) and why. This has been a platform for many entertaining anecdotes and tales that the group has shared together. Rock Solid started in March 2017, and so far numbers are low. What kind of monkey can fly? A hot air baboon! What is a cat’s favourite colour? Purr-ple! Yes, we’ve been in school again! For the fifth year in succession, we took the story of Noah to each of the Year 4 classes continuing the tradition begun when Calverley Methodist Church shared money they had been given with the rest of the Circuit and Sharon Fell devised a day’s work based on the story. What we do has developed and Sharon would no longer recognise most of how we spend the day. We begin by telling the story using the excellent props made for Shipley’s Open the Book assemblies. Then the story and its message are reinforced as the children do Maths, doubling and halving as they convert cubits into metres and realise just how large the Ark was! Report: Sept – Dec 14 Drop in/Open Access on Wednesday evenings: On Wednesday evenings, we are seeing very good development through activities and numbers attending. We had the first real incident in September, when we had to close and re-assess our aims and objectives. This was the first time in two years, which I thought was pretty good. Since then, the young people have responded to the rules, which were put together by them to give them a bit of self-ownership. We see a regular attendance of 30 young people and we have good relationships with each of them. The partner organisation working with us is ‘One in a Million’, who have given a 2-3 year commitment to the area and are bringing good youth work and resources to enhance the project. We have just started a School of Rock where we have drums, guitars and keyboards and this is being taught to the young people in six weeks. A very good start to the year; the numbers are growing on a Wednesday evening. We have just introduced a music project which is being delivered by One in a Million. This involves the young people creating and designing their own song on a laptop, using specific technical sounds. It has really taken off. This month we held a fire-lighting activity outdoors using a fire-pit and toasting marshmallows and cooking some sausages. I am grateful for the commitment and passion of the other workers supporting Wednesday evenings, as this is only possible because we have 7 staff each week. This month we started a Fresh Expression of Church in St Anthony’s Catholic Primary School, on Wednesday afternoons from 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm, called Extreme Explorers. Already we have 30 young people on the register. The idea behind the name is: exploring in the Bible, how they can be extreme disciples of Jesus in the world of school, home and social life. West Yorkshire Youth Network Together – 23-2-14 WYYN Together is the first event for the new West Yorkshire Youth Network. We will be meeting together at Cornerstone Methodist Church in the Bradford South Circuit on Sunday 23 rd February between 3.30 and 8.00pm. The program for the evening is included below but it will be a great opportunity for young people between the ages of 11 and 21 to get together. There will be opportunities for socialising and meeting new people, discussing issues that are important to them, for getting involved in worship, to eat together and to meet the Methodist Youth President Tamara Wray . This is a fantastic opportunity to prepare for the first Youth Synod that will be running alongside the main Synod in May, to get to know the people that will be there and to have an opportunity to influence the topics that might be discussed at this and future Synods.
