Virtual Worship - 1 November 2020

All Saints Day   Service Sheet (pdf) Today is All Saints Day, the day in the Christian calendar when we are encouraged the celebrate all those past and present have been called into God’s service. Through it, we recognise how God calls all kinds of people to serve Him in the world, people like you and me, ordinary people made special through the extraordinary love of God. Together, we are God’s people, the church, seeking to live in the way of Jesus. Call to worship for All Saints Day, from Micah 6.8 With what shall I come before the Lord and bow down before the exalted God? He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. What does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? Song Or read or sing a well-known hymn such as ‘For all the saints’ (Hymns and Psalms 814, Singing the Faith 745) – some verses are included here: For all the saints, who from their labours rest, Who Thee by faith before the world confessed, Thy name, O Jesus, be fo

Harvest Festival Service sheet (pdf) Call to worship God of the sowing and reaping, We bring before you the gifts of the harvest. God of the sunshine and rain, We bring before you the fruits of our labours. God of the times and the seasons, We bring before you another festival of rejoicing. God of the growing up and the dying back We bring before you our lives in all their fullness. Harvest hymn: HP 352/StF 130 We plough the fields and scatter (this will be sung for us by the Roberts family from Haworth Road) Prayers We praise you, God who holds our world in your hands. You bring us breezes and sunshine and soft refreshing rain; and the seeds that we plant grow and fruit, and are harvested. You bring us blessing and bounty, enough for all, and you ask us to share it out. You bring us seasons in our lives, and the seeds you plant in us take root and come to fruition at the right time; and you seek your harvest from us. You bring us times of growth and times of dying back, and in this t

Pastoral Letter - October 2020

Dear friends, We write in the season of harvest and remembrance, as autumn moves towards winter and the light recedes. We are conscious that for all of us this year has been difficult, and there seems no imminent end in sight to this time of uncertainty. Indeed it seems likely that West Yorkshire will soon join those other regions finding themselves in Tier 3 lockdown, with its increased levels of social distancing and measures to prevent the spread of infection. There are a number of things we want to say. Firstly, it’s okay to feel uneasy, anxious, uncertain about things – we are all feeling something of this. But it’s not okay to bottle it up. One of the things we can offer one another as Christian friends is the space to share how we are feeling. So please feel free to talk, and be ready to listen, whether pastoral visitor, church friend, good neighbour, minister. And be holding in prayer any you know who are struggling. As you pray for them, so someone will be praying for you.

Jesus Shaped People - Week 7 Service sheet (pdf) Welcome: Hello and welcome to today’s worship from Baildon Methodist Church in the Bradford North circuit. My name is Claire Nott and I’m one of the members at Baildon Methodist Church. Helping me in today’s service are Reverend Canon Gordon Dey, Abbie Nott and Reverend Vicky Atkins, Chaplain at Woodhouse Grove School. This is the seventh and final service in a series where we’ve been exploring Luke’s account of the final journey of Jesus to Jerusalem, and its impact on his disciples. Over the next 45 minutes we’ll be reviewing the messages we’ve heard over the last six weeks and considering the impact on our lives and churches, particularly in this time of Covid-19. Call to worship Our call to worship today is taken from Colossians chapter 3 :  Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 16 Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as y

Jesus Shaped People - Prayer Service Sheet (pdf) Good morning. Welcome to our Service of Worship from the North Bradford Methodist Circuit. I’m Ruth Kerr, a Worship Leader at Baildon and our theme this morning is Prayer. This is week 5 of a series we have been following called Jesus Shaped People, looking at the teaching of Jesus during the final period of his ministry, on his journey to Jerusalem, described in Luke’s gospel in chapters 9 to 19. Today we focus on prayer and we’ll be looking at a couple of passages in particular which shed light on the subject, interspersing this with prayers, and I have enlisted the help of some members of the Monday evening Prayer group, currently meeting on Zoom.In the uncertain times in which we are living, I personally feel very grateful for the gift of prayer, very grateful to Jesus for opening up the way for us to approach God in prayer.  Call to worship And so, with this sense of gratitude, let’s start our Service with a Psalm of praise, Psalm
