In the talent programme ‘The Voice’, the judges sit with their backs to the performers.  If they like what they hear and think they have potential, they turn their chair around to see them. Today, some Greeks have heard of Jesus, and now want to see him for themselves.

The Greeks ask to see Jesus; the crowd tells him that what he says is not in line with what they have heard.
Job said: “I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees you.” (Job 42:5, NRSV)

Have you ever come up against a challenge to your faith?  How did you deal with that?  What did you learn from it?  Did it change your faith?  Did it help you to see Jesus more clearly?

“Open our eyes, Lord,
We want to see Jesus” – from the chorus by Robert Cull.

Can you make this your prayer?
Can you ask to see more than you have seen up to now, even if it challenges what you think you know?

A year in the life of Baildon Methodist Church

The snippets below are taken from Baildon Methodist Church report to the Charity Commissioners for the year ending August 2017. Church membership increased to 187 by the end of the year. As a further development of the Jesus Shaped People programme, which we found so inspiring, (https://www.jesusshapedpeople.net/) a five-week teaching programme entitled ‘Parables For Baildon’ again took place in the New Year, studying the relevance of the Parables in relation to living today. A ‘Family Focus’ leaflet, updated seasonally, was produced listing all activities and events available at Baildon Methodist Church for children and young families. Events during the year included a harvest supper and entertainment, a Gilbert & Sullivan evening, a comedy night, a Church Anniversary social, Action For Children Christmas Fayre and concerts by Village Voices, Aire Valley Male Voice choir and Woodhouse Grove School. In the autumn, the Church hosted a visit by a group of young Palestinian dan

Holiday at Home - Holiday Fun

Holiday at home - holiday fun Holiday at Home is organised by Linda, the Circuit's Pastoral Visitor.  It offers a week of activities for the elderly who are unable to holiday away. Our annual Holiday at Home event is over once again, but I am sure that everyone involved will agree that it was a great success and we all enyoyed ourselves tremendously. This year an invitation was extended to the whole of the circuit and we welcomed a number of new guests and helpers who very quickly felt at ease and made new friends.  Over the week we had lots of fun, lots of companionship and lots of scrumptious food! The week didn't, however, pass without a few hiccups, especially on our trips out.  We managed to lose one of our ladies in Embsay as she decided that she liked the ride on the steam train so much that she thought she would have another trip!  This resulted in a quick detour back to Bolton Abbey to rescue her. Then over lunch we discovered that the coach we had b
