Haworth Road Methodist Church Weekend 2015

On Friday 15 May, many of our church family set off for our annual visit to Grange-over Sands. This being the 11th year since the weekends were reintroduced, a new team had been formed to be at the helm, planning and organising our time together.  Following the usual format, there was time for discussion, free time, fun and worship.

The theme of the weekend was ‘Promises’ which proved to be full of scope and provoked lively discussion within the groups. Saturday evening is always fun as we join in a game or two & several of our number shared their talents and entertained us well. Epilogues relating to the theme were ably led to end the formal part of each evening, though the chat as always went on long after.

Sunday morning worship and communion service was very special as Rev. Christine focused on our rainbow theme and dedicated the individual bookmark promises we’d made and offered to God.  All too soon, it was time for traditional Sunday lunch, after which a few left for home. However, the majority chose to take advantage of the excellent facilities at Thornleigh and stayed an extra night, spending the afternoon as they wished and ending the day with a Songs of Praise Service.

Calverley's Young Potters

The children of the Charlie Wesley Craft and Cooking Club, and a couple of Dads too, turned their hand to pottery, when we created the animals that went into the Ark. The figures were air-dried then fired to bisque, and then they were painted and glazed and re-fired. How do you like the results? Charlie Wesley Craft and Cooking Club at Calverley Methodist Church has developed into a group of 3 to 8 year olds (and mums and dads too) who meet on the first Saturday of the month and cook and craft stories from the Bible.
