Donkey Sanctuary Visit

On Palm Sunday, Calverley are celebrating by having a procession around Calverley Park led by a donkey! So we thought it would be a good idea to take the young people of the Junior Church along with their mums and dads to the donkey sanctuary to get to know the donkeys and perhaps meet the one that would be visiting us on Palm Sunday.

So, on Sunday 1st March, we gathered in the Schoolroom. Kim led us in a short prayer and then off we went to the sanctuary. And what a brilliant time we had! We were told that two of donkeys had personal appearances on Palm Sunday and the lucky two had not been chosen. Temperament and size have to be taken into consideration and the decision is taken nearer the time, but we were told that one donkey will be visiting York Minster and another Calverley Methodist Church. Can you imagine those two donkeys discussing their day out, when they get back to the sanctuary? Whatever their stories, they will both have played an important part in our telling of the Easter story, be it in the great York Minster or in the local park at Calverley.

After much patting and stroking of the donkeys and choosing which one we wanted to adopt, we retreated into the warmth of the tearoom for hot drinks, toasted teacakes and - what else, but - donkey shortbread biscuits!

Share the joy of Christmas with older people

The most important Christmas Card you’ll send this year Methodist Homes (MHA) are asking YOUR CHURCH to share the joy of Christmas with older people this year.  Could you take the time to write just one extra Christmas card which will be passed to an older person cared for by MHA?  To take part, please refer to the further  details and an order form . Instructions of how to take part, as well as special Christmas cards designed by an MHA resident for your church members to write their own messages of goodwill and friendship, are included in the Christmas Friendship Appeal pack. “May I express my gratitude for your lovely idea of asking folk (including children) to send Christmas cards. We appreciate the warmth and concern of the whole idea.”  MHA Resident

Andrew to stay!

We are delighted to report that the Circuit Meeting, on 16 September, voted unanimously to appoint Rev Andrew Taylor as a full-time member of the Bradford North ministerial team, from 1 September 2015 for a period of 5 years. This ends the uncertainty over the future staffing of the circuit, following the unsuccessful search for a minister from the United Reformed Church. Andrew has been working with the team in a temporary, reduced-hours, capacity over the past 12 months and his ministry has been greatly appreciated. The unanimous vote by the Circuit Meeting is a ringing endorsement of the way all our churches feel about Andrew.
