St Andrew's 60th Anniversary

St Andrew’s current church building was opened in October 1954. To celebrate our 60th anniversary, we decided to invite former ministers to return to lead worship, which they did over a 6 month period from May until October.

We were delighted to meet again with Revs David Priestnall, Darren Garfield, Keith Hunt and Nick Blundell and also to welcome former members of the church who are now ministers, Revs Simon Sutcliffe and Derek Grimshaw.

Each returning minister received a garland, in keeping with the culture of our friends from Pakistan.

Our annual Anniversary service was held on 2nd November. It was led by Rev David Bonny and was attended by the Lord Mayor of Bradford, Cllr Mike Gibbons and the Lady Mayoress, and a former Lord Mayor, Cllr Howard Middleton and Mrs Middleton.

A display of memorabilia and items recounting the history of the church were provided with the generous help of Trevor Wright, a former member of the church.

It was good to celebrate our heritage and recall events and people from past years. It was also a call to us to continue to serve and witness to the people of Undercliffe and to be for them “The Light on the Cliff”.

By the time you read this letter, I will have already started my sabbatical and I will be absent from the circuit from mid-May to mid-August.     This is not an extended holiday but an opening to do something different, as a way of being refreshed in ministry; an opportunity to ‘power down’ and to get away from a hectic, diary-driven ministry, in order to spend more focused time with God. It is a requirement and not an option for ministers to take their sabbatical break.     There have been two main aspects to consider in planning the sabbatical. The first has been to decide how I should use the time. For your interest, I am pressing on with studies begun through Leeds University (which could lead to the award of a PhD), reflecting on my wor...
