Scarecrow Festival 6/7 October



Scarecrow Festival - Thackley Methodist Church

Saturday 6 October

Church open for viewing community group scarecrows:  10 am to 12.00 noon and 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm
Donations welcomed for church funds and WaterAid.
Refreshments available at nominal cost.

Sunday 7 October

10.30 am Harvest Festival service led by Rev Sarah Jemison - everyone welcome
2.00 pm Concert by the Glen Singers, an 80 strong mixed voice choir.  Tickets £4 adults, children free with a paying adult, otherwise £2.00 (includes refreshments).

We are grateful to Martin S Lonsdale estate agents and Northern Lights hair studio for contributing prizes for the raffle - look out for a scarecrow in the village!  If anyone else wants to create and display a scarecrow during the weekend let us know.

Bradford Metropolitan Food Bank

An article in the March Link stated that, after April, the foodbank operated by the Light Church will limit its service to postcodes which extend into the centre of Bradford.  However, there is a food bank which provides food bags for the whole of the Bradford district and surrounding areas. The following is an account of this bank; I am indebted to Keith Thomson, a member of the committee, for this information. Bradford Metropolitan Food Bank is the original food bank in Bradford. It opened in 2004, as an extension of the Curry Project for rough sleepers, started by Lashman Singh. It provides food bags for the whole of the Bradford district and collects food from the same area. It is non-sectarian, supporting people of all faiths and none, and the volunteers are from all sections of the diverse Bradford community. Courage, Cost and Hope

You may have seen in the press, recently, references to the Methodist Church’s report on the Past Cases Review of Safeguarding concerns in the church over the last 50 years, a report entitled “ Courage, Cost and Hope ”. The report contains many recommendations and learning from its findings will feed into church life over the next months and years (including our Creating Safer Space training).
