Touchstone - Annual Review & Fund Raising

The Annual Review 2012 is now available for download (pdf).

Fund Raising

On 7th March 2012 Touchstone finally completed the purchase of the former McRory’s Bar, 4 Easby Road, Bradford. This will enable the vision of weaving a listening community to become a reality. The project to purchase and refurbish the new premises will cost £950,000. Touchstone has already sourced nearly £450,000 of this but your help is needed in securing the remaining £500,000. Your donations or pledges of £5, £50, £500, £5,000 ... or more! will be gratefully received.

What will McRory’s provide for Touchstone ?

In the basement of the building will be a kitchen/hospitality space and creative arts area, where stories can be told and heard. The ground floor will be the administrative hub with office space for staff and other users and a Meet & Greet area. A conference suite will be located on the first floor with screens to make smaller rooms, offering a whole range of new opportunities. The second floor will be a 'listening room' that looks out across the city – this will be dedicated space for worship, quiet reflection and intentional listening - including group work with children and students. All floors will be fully accessible.

May message from the Ministry Team

Dear friends One of the ‘deep wells’ that replenishes my spirituality is the practice of ‘Lectio Divina’ which is an ancient method for praying with the Bible. It literally means ‘divine reading’, or ‘reading in a godly kind of way’. We rush about so much these days and practising the discipline of a slower reading of the Bible to allow it to speak to us is an integral aspect of Lectio Divina. If you want to try it yourself, read slowly a short passage of text that you have decided upon in advance, letting your awareness rest in turn upon each word. As you read, be alert for any particular word or phrase that draws your attention in a special way. Then meditate on this word or phrase, allowing it to engage you fully. Does the word connect with some aspect of your own experience? As you hold this in your heart, let yourself become aware of any answering words, images, or memories that arise in you. Then finally respond through prayer to the word you have heard, simply and directl...

Share the joy of Christmas with older people

The most important Christmas Card you’ll send this year Methodist Homes (MHA) are asking YOUR CHURCH to share the joy of Christmas with older people this year.  Could you take the time to write just one extra Christmas card which will be passed to an older person cared for by MHA?  To take part, please refer to the further  details and an order form . Instructions of how to take part, as well as special Christmas cards designed by an MHA resident for your church members to write their own messages of goodwill and friendship, are included in the Christmas Friendship Appeal pack. “May I express my gratitude for your lovely idea of asking folk (including children) to send Christmas cards. We appreciate the warmth and concern of the whole idea.”  MHA Resident
