QUIET DAY FOR ADVENT
"GIFTS OF PROMISE"

The Briery Retreat Centre

The Briery is set in spacious grounds on the outskirts of Ilkley, and is described as ‘a place of spiritual renewal where those who come can find God in an atmosphere of love, prayer, healing and peace.’

Travel to Ilkley is by bus from Bradford, Keighley and Skipton and by train from Bradford. A taxi rank is close by the station. Cars following the A65 take the turning up Victoria Avenue (the Skipton side of the town centre) to the Briery.

Cost for the day is £24 including morning coffee, full lunch and afternoon tea.  We do not want anyone to feel excluded because of the cost, and there will be financial assistance available.

A year in the life of Baildon Methodist Church

The snippets below are taken from Baildon Methodist Church report to the Charity Commissioners for the year ending August 2017. Church membership increased to 187 by the end of the year. As a further development of the Jesus Shaped People programme, which we found so inspiring, (https://www.jesusshapedpeople.net/) a five-week teaching programme entitled ‘Parables For Baildon’ again took place in the New Year, studying the relevance of the Parables in relation to living today. A ‘Family Focus’ leaflet, updated seasonally, was produced listing all activities and events available at Baildon Methodist Church for children and young families. Events during the year included a harvest supper and entertainment, a Gilbert & Sullivan evening, a comedy night, a Church Anniversary social, Action For Children Christmas Fayre and concerts by Village Voices, Aire Valley Male Voice choir and Woodhouse Grove School. Holiday at Home - Wednesday 11th January 2017

We pick our days! The morning started out very windy and our wonderful, determined guests arrived very windswept at St. Andrew’ s. However the atmosphere was warm & welcoming inside. After refreshments, we were royally entertained by Geoff Twentyman who had us casting our minds back to the 1940s, 50s and 60’ s, in the days of steam-driven radio. This involved a lot of head-scratching about who said what. Everyone was soon transported into another era. Lunch followed. Which everyone enjoyed. After lunch, everyone was entertained with the delightful voice of Cathy Ryan. She led a delightful time of excellent songs. We finished the day with communion, to give thanks to God for this wonderful time we had had. The chauffeurs arrived and everyone was escorted back to their homes.
