Zephaniah Celebration Day

10.00 am - 4.00 pm Saturday 25 February 2012
Shipley Baptist Church
New Kirkgate, Shipley, D18 3QY

You are invited to join us in celebrating our 18th birthday.  To mark the occasion we are holding a Celebration Day.  The Day gives us a chance to meet with our supporters and other interested parties, showcasing the work that we do, and giving our supporters the opportunity to join us for a short commissioning service to send us out for our 19th year.

We have designed the programme for the day to give you an opportunity to get a taste of as much of our work as possible, and experience a little bit of what the children in our schools experience.  You are welcome to drop in to the bits that interest you, or join us for the whole day.

Admission
The day is free and you don't need a ticket.  Drop in for half an hour or stay all day.  We'll be delighted to see you however long you can spend with us.  The formal bit - the commissioning - will take place at the end of the day as part of the praise party (so not so formal), and we would be especially glad to see you then.

Children
We would be delighted for you to bring children with you - it wouldn't be Zephaniah if they weren't welcome.  If they get a bit bored with all the 'up-front' stuff then they can have a go at painting a plant pot.  We'll certainly need them to jump up and down and join in with the actions at the Praise Party.  We'll make sure there is a quieter space, with toys, for those with really little ones.

Refreshments
Tea, coffee and light refreshments will be available all day, so you can relax with some cake or nibble a sandwich while listening to John's concert set.  A donation towards the cost of these would be appreciated.  Alternatively you can take advantage of one of the fine eating establishments around Shipley.

Parking and Travelling
If coming by car during the morning we would advise using the public car park across the road from the rear of the church, as the church car park is rented out until lunchtime.  During the afternoon the Church car park is available.  For those using satnav, the postcode is BD18 3QY.  If coming by train then Shipley Station is about a 5 minute walk away.  If travelling by bus, a large number of buses stop at Shipley Market Place, just across the raod from the Church.

Further information
If you need any more information please contact Jenny in the Zephaniah Office on 01274 533732 or office@zephaniah.org.uk

Message from the Ministry Team

Dear friends By the time you read this, we will already be a month through this new year. Where does the time go? It really does seem to go by ever more quickly, as each year passes. For children who have returned to school after the Christmas and New Year break, next Christmas will seem an age away. When I started secondary school, I couldn’t imagine getting to the end of school at 18. I worked out that I would be 35 at the turn of the century, but that seemed impossibly far away. So what makes time seem to pass quickly? After all, each week is made up of seven days and each day has 24 hours, whatever our age or stage in life. Responsibilities play a part: there are things we need to do at certain times, and any deadline always makes us aware of time ticking away as we approach it. We accrue responsibilities as we grow older and take on more senior positions at work, or have a family to look after. At church, we ta

A year in the life of Baildon Methodist Church

The snippets below are taken from Baildon Methodist Church report to the Charity Commissioners for the year ending August 2017. Church membership increased to 187 by the end of the year. As a further development of the Jesus Shaped People programme, which we found so inspiring, (https://www.jesusshapedpeople.net/) a five-week teaching programme entitled ‘Parables For Baildon’ again took place in the New Year, studying the relevance of the Parables in relation to living today. A ‘Family Focus’ leaflet, updated seasonally, was produced listing all activities and events available at Baildon Methodist Church for children and young families. Events during the year included a harvest supper and entertainment, a Gilbert & Sullivan evening, a comedy night, a Church Anniversary social, Action For Children Christmas Fayre and concerts by Village Voices, Aire Valley Male Voice choir and Woodhouse Grove School. In the autumn, the Church hosted a visit by a group of young Palestinian dan
