Prayer Column - February 2013

Snow Prayers I’ve just been clearing snow off our paths and drive. Doubtless it won’t be the last time this year. I’m glad I’ve got a couple of good tools: a bulldozer-shaped blade on a good strong handle for pushing it into heaps, and a light, long-handled shovel for heaving it away. But it’s funny stuff, snow. Last time it was light and fluffy: clearing it was no effort at all. Today is was deeper and heavier – beginning to be wet – though not as heavy as it would have become if I’d delayed getting on with the job. I’ve learned that from experience. We could pray for those whose lives are seriously disrupted by snow, with work slowed or halted and earnings threatened, while remembering those facing the extra cost of keeping things moving (and getting flak when they can’t). That doesn’t affect me too badly, being retired, but of course age means slips and falls are more likely, and more serious. So we could praise God for the wildly wonderful fun children have sledging and sno

Table Top Sale 26 January

Thackley Methodist Church , BD10 0RH Table top sale Saturday 26 January 2013 10.00 am to 12.00 noon Refreshments available including bacon butties. Our table top sales are one way of us supporting the local community.  Tables are offered free of charge to those in the local area and so far we've had a wide variety of talents on display with jewellery, crafts, crystals, bric-a-brac, baking etc. We hold the sales in church as the community hall is often being used by our groups.  Many have commented about the calm and friendly environment that this provides; it also provides a first look inside for those who have passed by on the outside many times.  We have been particularly delighted that our open doors have drawn in couples who were married or worshipped here many years ago. We hope you will join us.

"Crossing the Chasm" Methodist Women in Britain

"Crossing the Chasm" Annual Conference 12-14 April 2013 The Hayes Conference Centre, Swanwick, Derbyshire This annual conference, formerly organised by Network, now MWiB, offers an excellent introduction to engagement with MWiB to women leaders in many areas of church life, particularly to those interested in creative spirituality and global social justice, in areas that affect women. Our District’s MWiB group is keen to attract younger women be they under 50 or under 25 to consider this for the first time, and they are offering bursaries to help with the cost for such people.  They have been in touch with the 3Generate age group, and the current Youth President, Hayley Moss, but would also be grateful if you could think about possible women who would benefit.
